Survey tools for micro influencer marketing campaigns
Compare survey tools for micro influencer marketing, with campaign uses, audience fit and brand measures, UK data protection checks and reporting advice.
What to take away
- Micro influencer marketing survey tools divide into free form builders such as Google Forms and Microsoft Forms, paid platforms such as Typeform and SurveyMonkey, and research suites such as Qualtrics.
- Free tools fit one-off pulse checks. Paid platforms add quotas, cross-tabs and exports for recurring tracking, so match spend to how often you re-run the survey.
- Prolific and Pollfish sell completed responses, so the bill tracks sample size rather than seats.
- Data protection duties do not change with tool size. Check the lawful basis for any contact list before you upload it, as the ICO sets out in its guidance on choosing a lawful basis for direct marketing.
- For advertising disclosure, follow the CAP Code and the ASA's guidance for influencers and brands.
Form builders, survey platforms and research suites compared
Most teams choose between a general form builder, a dedicated survey platform and a full research suite. For micro influencer marketing, use surveys to test audience fit before a brief and collect self-reported brand or message feedback afterwards; creator-discovery and campaign-management platforms solve a different job. Each survey tool type fits a different research task.
Google Forms and Microsoft Forms are free. Google Forms needs only a Google account and takes unlimited questions, with responses exported to a spreadsheet. Microsoft Forms works the same way for personal use and is included in Microsoft 365 work plans. Branching logic and panel management are limited on both, so they suit simple questions and samples under 100.
Typeform and Jotform are the paid middle. Typeform builds conversational, branded surveys, and its free plan caps responses at roughly ten a month. Jotform's free tier caps monthly submissions and embeds easily in a website.
SurveyMonkey adds quotas, weighting and cross-tabulation on paid tiers. Its free Basic plan limits questions and responses per survey, so the maths changes as your sample grows.
Prolific and Pollfish supply respondents rather than software. Prolific charges per participant and sets a minimum hourly rate; Pollfish sells completed responses by audience segment.
Qualtrics and Alchemer are the research suites, quoted per project and common in brand and academic research. Alchemer runs from self-serve tiers to enterprise reporting. Neither pays back on one campaign.
The right answer depends on how you define the audience in the first place. A clear target audience definition for micro influencer marketing stops you buying features you will never use.

Effort matters as much as licence cost. A cheap tool with complex logic can take longer to programme than a pricier one with templates. Count the internal hours before you commit.
Data protection checks
A survey may collect personal data, such as an email address or a profile linked to a respondent. You remain responsible for deciding what you collect and how you use it; a vendor does not take over your obligations.
Handle personal data under the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Record your lawful basis for collecting and using it, how long you will keep it and how someone can opt out; check the ICO's guidance on lawful basis before using contact data for direct marketing.
Check where data is stored and whether the vendor signs a processing agreement. Google, Microsoft, SurveyMonkey and Qualtrics publish these terms. If a tool cannot answer, rule it out early.
Question design that travels
Survey questions should map to campaign decisions, not to curiosity. If a question will not change a brief, cut it.
For a micro-influencer campaign, ask about audience fit before launch, then use consistent questions afterwards about creator-content recall, brand awareness, consideration and purchase intent. These are self-reported measures, not proof of reach or sales, so interpret them alongside campaign analytics and tracked links or codes.
Keep scales consistent across waves so results stay comparable. Mixed scales make trend reading unreliable.
Pilot with a small group before full launch. Ten responses will expose confusing wording faster than any review meeting.
Reporting fit
Reporting is where cheap tools often fall short. Google Forms and Typeform export raw data; a locked dashboard limits later analysis.
Cross-tabulation matters if you will compare segments. SurveyMonkey and Qualtrics include it on higher tiers, so you avoid rebuilding tables by hand.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing is a useful reference for broader marketing planning. For a campaign, define the audience, message and outcome before choosing survey questions.

Common questions
Do free survey tools meet data protection rules?
Yes, if you use them properly. The tool does not change your duties, so record your lawful basis and retention period before you collect responses.
How many respondents do I need?
It depends on the decision. A pulse check can work with a small panel, while segment comparisons need enough responses per segment to be meaningful.
Can I run surveys inside an influencer platform?
Influencer-marketing platforms such as Upfluence, Aspire, GRIN, CreatorIQ and HypeAuditor can help manage creator campaigns or provide audience analytics; check directly whether the plan you use includes respondent polling, as analytics are not a substitute for asking people questions. For questionnaires with question logic and export options, dedicated tools such as SurveyMonkey and Typeform are more suitable.
Should I pay for a research suite?
